The size of your camping tent is one of the most important aspects when choosing a tent. For a backpacking tent, you might be willing to sacrifice a bit of space for a lower weight, but you still need enough space to sleep plus store your equipment. For a longer campsite holiday with your whole family, a large family tent will be better, since you will also spend time inside and usually bring much more stuff.
When choosing the size of your camping or backpacking tent, always keep in mind that the amount of sleepers recommended by the manufacturer is only a guideline. Some tents are offering lots of space even for your equipment, whilst others with the same capacity are much smaller. First check the tents for the amount of people you camp with, and take a look at the actual measurements. If you feel you will be too cramped, go for a bigger size.
